How Coaches Can Help Churches
by Sam Farina
Congregational coaching should be rich in content.  That is, it is based on assessments that the church has taken previously and during the coaching.  The coach serves as facilitator in content rich coaching helping the congregation move from their present reality to the desired changes either discovered from assessments or felt by the congregation.  Contextual framework coaching is a second approach that can be used with congregations.  This is where the coach helps the church find the image God wants that fits the unique situation of the congregation.  The discovery of the image God wants comes out from within the congregational members.

After leading the congregation in discovery, the coach then helps facilitate the spiritual journey of moving the church from discovery to redevelopment.  Content-neutral coaching would not be used in redevelopment since it is coaching about anything the congregation feels is important.  An example of content-neutral coaching would be a congregation asking a coach to help with church growth, the choosing of staff, team development, or developing passion.

How Coachable Is a Leader?
The following is an assessment tool that can be used to discover the coachability of the leadership of a church.  This would be an effective tool in charting the initial openness and year to year progress of the transformation to a coaching philosophy of the congregation going through redevelopment.[1]

The Warm Heart of Africa
This week, I am privileged to preach the Gospel in Malawi Africa, the seventh poorest nation in the world with one million orphans and with the life expectancy being only 41.7 years old.  Yet, incredibly this nation is still considered the warm heart of Africa, not only for the incredible warmth of the air, but due to the amazing warmth of the hearts of these people in need.  "Need" doesn't even seem strong enough a word to describe the amount of people stricken with poverty.  "Need" does not fairly describe the amount of people struggling through the end of life with HIV AIDS.  "Need" is a weak word for those who are living their lives without the knowledge of the One who came to give them life.

It is into this incredible country that in August of 2008 the first YC on the African continent will be held.  YC is Canada's largest Youth Conference; and this year it's going global.  Not only will there be a life-changing event on the weekend of August 8th, 2008 (08/08/08), but our dream is to impact the country by sending in up to 12 teams from Canada (under the leadership of Mike Love) to minister with compassion, love, and truth to this warm country.

Indeed, God is using the prayerful support of friends like you to share Christ with thousands of people.  Thank you for helping us reach this nation one heart at a time.
